it is going to be a nasty weekend weather-wise for much of Nebraska. National Weather Service Meteorologist Katie Gross says there is a fairly strong winter storm moving into the region.
Gross says, “It looks like it will start out as rain over most of our area and eventually it will transition into snow starting in northeast Nebraska basically overnight Friday into Saturday. As it transitions into snow, there might be some areas that will see some mixed precipitation so there could be some freezing rain or even some ice pellets mixed in there too.”
Gross says the hardest hit areas will be central and northern Nebraska where residents could see 8 to 10 inches of snow.
Gross says there will be a sharp cut-off point from Columbus through far southeast Nebraska where amounts will drop off sharply. The Omaha metro area could see up to two inches of snow. Snow could linger into early Monday.
The addition of sleet and freezing rain could make travel difficult. Travelers are urged to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to alter plans if necessary.
