A 36-year-old Bennington man faces criminal charges after fleeing the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Omaha early Saturday evening in which a 14-year-old boy was killed.
Omaha police found Jeffrey Eggeling uninjured. He has been booked on two counts of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury as well as leaving the scene of a crash.
Fifty-nine-year-old Clifford Canaday and his teen-age son, Trevor, were both taken to the Nebraska Medical Center with critical head injuries. Trevor, a freshman at Millard South High School in Omaha, died of his injuries. Clifford Canaday is listed in stable condition, according to hospital officials.
Omaha police report an investigation revealed Clifford Canaday was turning from southbound South 144th Street onto Harrison Street when a northbound sport utility vehicle driven by Eggeling ran a red light and struck the car. Trevor Canaday was ejected from the car.
Police say Eggeling abandoned his SUV and fled the scene.
Eggeling is being held in the Douglas County jail.
Additional charges could be filed by the Douglas County attorney.
