A driver suffered a medical episode, lost control of his sport utility vehicle on I-80 in western Nebraska, leading to a rollover crash which killed an 11-year-old Colorado girl.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports after the driver was stricken, the SUV veered into the median of I-80 as passengers attempted to gain control. The SUV went back across the eastbound lanes into the south ditch and rolled. Four occupants were ejected.
Eleven-year-old Karen Valverde of Longmont, Colorado was rushed to Ogallala Community Hospital, but died of injuries sustained in the crash. A 9-year-old boy has been taken by life flight helicopter to Denver Children’s Hospital.
NSP says the accident occurred late Saturday afternoon near mile marker 138 near Ogallala.
An investigation into the crash continues.
