An investigation is underway into a fatal wreck in northwest Lincoln this morning which occurred as a vehicle fled from Lancaster County sheriff’s deputies.
The Nebraska State Patrol says it is investigating at the request of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
An occupant of the sport utility vehicle being pursued, 14-year-old Zayne Yost of Lincoln, died in the crash.
NSP reports sheriff’s deputies began pursuit of the SUV just before 8 o’clock this morning after it was reported stolen. The driver of the SUV took off westbound on Interstate 80 and while attempting to exit onto Northwest 48th Street, lost control of the vehicle on a turn. It rolled. All four in the vehicle were ejected.
The three others in the SUV, 14-year-old Darius Hayes,15-year-old Anthony Moreno, and 16-year-old Andrew Fischer have been taken to Bryan Medical Center and Bryan West Campus for treatment of their injuries; none considered life-threatening at this time. Investigators believe Hayes was driving the SUV.
