A 44-year-old Lincoln man faces numerous charges after fleeing police in a stolen vehicle.
The Nebraska State Patrol says a trooper attempted to stop Damian Smith during the early morning hours of Sunday near 27th Street and Cornhusker Highway in Lincoln. NSP says Smith took off and troopers pursue.
When Smith began driving against oncoming traffic, the pursuit ended. An NSP helicopter then tracked the vehicle near Rosa Parks Way and South Folsom in Lincoln. Troopers in patrol vehicles picked the pursuit back up. The car spun out near South Folsom and West B, began driving through a backyard, and then into an alley. A patrol car maneuvered to block the car and Smith was arrested.
Smith suffered a minor leg injury, according to NSP, and received treated at a Lincoln hospital before being taken to the Lancaster County jail.
NSP says Smith was arrested for felony flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving during revocation, and an outstanding felony warrant. Smith also faces charges from the Lincoln Police Department.
