At a ceremony at the capitol building, Governor Ricketts told a group of veterans that he will endorse a bill that would halve taxes on military retirement benefits in the state.
“This will provide about $15-million in additional tax relief to our retired military veterans,” said Ricketts.” It’s going to cover all (veterans in Nebraska); roughly 14,000.”
Ricketts says a few state senators have already signaled their support, but he’s encouraging veterans across Nebraska to reach out to their representatives to get the bill passed.
“Your involvement is going to be critical for us to be able to make sure that we can get this law passed and provide that tax benefits for all military veterans,” says Ricketts.
State Senator Robert Clements of Papillion, Carol Blood and Sue Crawford of Bellevue and Tom Brewer of Gordon have said that they will vote for the legislation.
Senator Brewer will introduce the bill on the floor of the unicameral when it reconvenes on behalf of the governor.
