Governor Ricketts wants to let the close to 50 Nebraska national guardsmen being deployed to Afghanistan how proud he is to be their governor.
“25 years ago, people joined the guard and they did not expect to be deployed,” says Ricketts. “ Today our young people join the Nebraska National Guard not only knowing they’re going to be deployed, but wanting to be deployed to take the fight to the enemy.”
Adjutant General Daryl Bohac who addressed the soldiers Saturday with the Governor says, he has two messages he wants known.
The first is aimed at the soldiers.
“Trust your training and believe in each other, and use that to being you back home,” says Bohac.
His second message is intended for the families of the deployed soldiers.
“While your service member is gone, we are here for you.”
The guardsmen will be deployed for around a year as part of Operation Freedom Sentinel and will mainly help conduct troop and supply transport missions.
