High levels of influenza activity are reported in Douglas County. The Health Department reports that a second adult has died from complications from the flu. Both of the deaths have been adults, over 65 years of age. The department reports there have been more than 960 cases of the flu so far this season with over 300 reported last week alone.
Nebraska Medicine in Omaha is again offering walk-in flu clinics due to the number of people becoming ill. Dr. Scott McPherson they are hoping that people take advantage of the service and not wait too long to get help. He says, “We are having some patients that need to be in the hospital because they are so sick with this. We don’t want to have them just wait until they are too sick to be treated in the clinic.”
Two of walk-in clinics are in the Omaha metro with the third in Plattsmouth.
It has been a deadly flu season so far in the state. Along with the two adult deaths in Douglas County, a 12 year old boy from Gage County died from the flu last month.
