A former Hastings man who left for Georgia only to return to Nebraska has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
The United States Attorney’s Office reports 29-year-old Michael Brandon Richardson had registered as a sex offender when he moved to Georgia, but failed to re-register when he returned to Nebraska.
Richard was convicted of misdemeanor sexual assault in 2009 in Nuckolls County District Court, which required him to register as a sex offender. He moved to Georgia. A year ago, Georgia law enforcement informed the Nebraska State Patrol Richardson appeared to have obtained a Nebraska driver’s license, listing a Hastings address. An investigation determined Richardson had been living and working in Hastings since June of 2017; then moved to Superior, Nebraska.
United States Marshals arrested Richardson in August of last year after NSP confirmed he had not registered as a sex offender upon returning to the state.
