Ruffin averaged 10.5 rebounds over the two-game stretch which saw Chadron State’s first 2-0 RMAC weekend sweep since 2014. He led an Eagles defense, which held the New Mexico Highlands league-best offense to 69 points on 22-of-66 shooting on Friday evening, and limited CSU-Pueblo to 62 on Saturday. Ruffin added two steals Saturday night in a home win over the ThunderWolves.

He is the only Chadron State player since 2010 to receiver player of the week recognition from the RMAC.

Huskers take down mistake prone Illini

November 10, 2018 By bpollock@missourinet.com

Nebraska turned five Illinois turnovers into 24 points and picked up their third win in four games, a 54-35 final Saturday at Memorial Stadium.  Illinois (4-6, 2-5) had three turnovers in the first half that led to 17 points for the Huskers which led 38-21 at half.

Adrian Martinez threw for 290 yards and accounted for four touchdowns and Devine Ozigbo ran for 162 yards and three scores. Martinez went 24-of-34 and threw for three touchdowns, and he ran 13 times for 55 yards and a TD. His 345 yards of total offense added to his school freshman-record 2,747. The 345-yard effort gives Martinez six 300-yard total offense games this season, tying a Nebraska season record. Martinez has tied the mark previously set by Joe Ganz in 2008 and Tommy Armstrong Jr. in 2015. Ozigbo broke a career-long 66-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and went 60 yards for another TD in the fourth.  Ozigbo is 42 yards short of becoming the Huskers’ first 1,000-yard rusher since 2014.

It was the biggest upset in the history of the MIAA Women’s Basketball Championships.

The No. 12-seeded Missouri Western Griffons knocked off No. 5-seed Nebraska Kearney, 60-57 Monday night to become the first 12-seed to ever win a game in the MIAA Championships. Missouri Western snapped a six-game losing streak and won on the road for just the second time all season and the first time against an MIAA opponent.

Missouri Western outscored the Lopers 21-13 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. Down by seven with 6:53 left, the Griffons went on an 8-0 run capped by back-to-back three-pointers by Mania Timson and Melia Richardson to take a one-point lead with 4:50 left. UNK answered to take a two-point lead, but the Griffons outscored the Lopers 8-3 over the final 3:33 to secure the team’s first postseason win since defeating Nebraska Kearney in the MIAA quarterfinals in 2016.

The Griffons advanced to the MIAA quarterfinals where they will face No. 4-seeded Central Oklahoma on Thursday, March 1 at approximately 8:15 p.m.
