Suh saves comedian in pool mishap

January 29, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Let’s dip out toes into the pool of Hollywood sleeze, but only because it involves a former Husker. This story actually has a good ending and shows Ndamukong Suh in a better light than what he’s been used to recently in the NFL.  Voted, one of the NFL’s dirtiest players, Suh showed he’s not such a bad guy.

Suh is taping a TV show called Celebrity Diving, and the website, TMZ.com reported during the taping of the show, Suh had to jump into the water to save comedian Louie Anderson who was tired and couldn’t pull himself up on the ladder.

Sources told TMZ, that Louie was practicing some of his dives and came up to the ladder, but was too exhausted and felll back into the water. Suh jumped in and with the help of Olympic champion Greg Louganis, they managed to get Louie on deck, where he coughed out some water and was fine.

Suh verbally slammed by Detroit teammate

December 7, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Former Husker defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been voted as one of the dirtiest players in the NFL during his first two seasons. Suh is earning a reputation for not being one of the most likable players. That’s starting to rub off on his own teammates.

An anonymous Lions player told Yahoo! Sport’s Jason Cole after Sunday’s 35-33 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. “But we have a couple of guys who don’t understand what it takes to win. Just making a couple of plays and thinking that makes you great … sometimes you want to just shake some of these guys and say, ‘Don’t you get it?’ ”

When asked to name one of those teammates, the player responded: “Ndamukong [Suh] would be first.”

Suh’s lawyer expects him to pay accident victim

July 31, 2012 By Bill Pollock

It appears former Nebraska defensive standout Ndamukong Suh will pay out some money to one of the passengers in his vehicle during a one car accident in Portland, OR., last December. Saadia Van Winkle, is suing him for more than $1 million. Suh’s attorney’s concedes Suh rightfully needs to pay up…just not that much money.

A statement released by Suh’s attorney Michael Learner says, “Ms. Van Winkle was a passenger in a vehicle Mr Suh was driving last December when he was involved in an unfortunate accident. Ms. Van Winkle suffered minor injuries in that accident, was examined at the hospital and released that night. Mr. Suh immediately called 911 to report the accident and told the police exactly what happened. After a thorough investigation by the police they determined no citation should be issued. Mr. Suh acknowledges Ms. Van Winkle should receive fair compensation for any injury she sustained or medical expense or wage loss she incurred and Mr. Suh has attempted to resolve the matter fairly with her. She has rejected those attempts and has now filed a lawsuit against Mr. Suh asking for more than $1,000,000. According to that lawsuit, she has incurred approximately $4,000 in medical expenses, and lost wages in the amount of $2,500. Mr. Suh denies many of the allegations in the complaint, but now it appears a jury will have to decide how to fairly compensate Ms. Van Winkle for her injury.”

Suh claimed to Portland police, who determined he was not impaired at the time of the accident, that he went to pass a taxi cab when he lost control of his car. Later, one of the passengers reported to a Portland TV station that Suh gunned the accelerator leaving a stoplight. The passenger reported they were thrown around like rag dolls.

Forbes lists Suh as one of the most disliked athletes

February 9, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Just four months ago, Forbes Magazine released a poll that had former Nebraska Cornhuskers Ndamukong Suh listed as the most liked NFL player. Now, Suh is on the list of one of the most disliked athletes.

Beating Suh out were Plaxico Burress at #3, Tigers Woods at #2 and Michael Vick at #1. Suh’s stomping on Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith during the Lions’ nationally televised Thanksgiving Day game this past season didn’t help Suh’s cause. He was ejected and suspended two games by the NFL.  Suh had been popular for his on-field performance, which helped elevate the Lions, and for his generosity in donating $2.6 million to Nebraska.

Suh apologized to Green Bay Packer lineman

December 29, 2011 By Bill Pollock

Former Husker Ndamukong Suh called and apologized to Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith just a few days after the Thanksgiving Day game when Suh pushed Dietrich-Smith’s head down into the turf and then stomped on his arm. The action landed Suh a two game suspension.

As far as Dietrich-Smith was concerned, the phone call and apology ended the incident.  “He’s cool, he apologized, and there’s no hard feelings and that’s pretty much it,” Dietrich-Smith said.

Dietrich-Smith doesn’t expect anything out of the ordinary to happen between him and Suh if they’re on the field together with Detroit playing at Lambeau Field.

Women in Suh’s accident claim they were injured

December 6, 2011 By Bill Pollock

More details are coming out about a story added earlier to our website about Ndamukong Suh’s accident report from a wreck last week in Portland, OR.

One of the women in the vehicle is quoted in the police report as saying she told Suh that she needed medical attention. She said Suh told her she was fine. She then walked down the street and had her husband pick her up and take her to a hospital.

According to a report from ESPN, the former Husker sounded calm during the 911 call to emergency services, twice refusing medical attention. Police consider the case closed.

Suh accident story takes on a different twist

December 6, 2011 By Bill Pollock

A website reports that one of the passengers with Ndamukong Suh, on the night of his car wreck in Portland, OR., is changing her story and wants her name blocked out of the police report for fear of retaliation from Suh’s friends and family.

The passenger’s claims are different from those that Suh recounted for Portland police. According to the story, from CBSSports.com, who obtained a copy of the police report, the woman’s name is blacked out in the report.

Portland police say there is no evidence that a crime was committed and they don’t plan to file any charges. The woman claims Suh’s unsafe driving caused the wreck. Suh told police the accident happened because he had to make an extreme maneuver to avoid colliding with a taxi.
